New Web 2.0 Project to Be Used In Classrooms (Notes.io)

1.) New Web 2.0 Tool:

  • Note.io
  • I will use this Web 2.0 tool for all of my classes, but specifically in my Biology Honors class with Mrs. Sistarenik.

2.) How will this tool be used?
  • This tool can be used exactly how it sounds it would be, to take notes!
  • Note.io can be used to take notes for lets say a class, or from a textbook, and then be shared with fellow classmates and friends that may have missed that day of notes.
    • Instead of copying down your notes for the day to give to a friend, you can now take the notes once, and simply share it with your friend over Facebook, Twitter; etc.

3.) How will this tool help you learn the content / lesson / unit; etc?
  • This tool, although it will not directly help you learn the material in your class, it can keep you well organized in classes and therefore helping your overall learning progress.
    • By losing notes, you in turn lose information that you have learned. With Note.io, you will never have that worry, and you may also share your notes with classmates, and look at the same note sheet together, maybe even quizzing each other on certain materials that both of you have difficulty on.

Through technological advances in robots that help the handicapped and those who cannot live on their own, yet another invention has been created. Cathy Hutchinson, a handicapped women, tested the new robotic moving arm, and finally after 15 years of being unable to take a drink without help of a caregiver, she was able to. The robot is controlled through a chip on the user that records the neurological signals when a person thinks. In Cathy's situation, by thinking about moving her arm to get the cup, the robot in turn recognized the pattern in her neurological signals to the body, and in response it did the action of picking up the cup.

A new type of surfboard has been produced, one that has been controversial and highly debated over the surfboarding community as to whether it takes the "fun" and "skill" out of catching a wave. The new motorized surfboard as shown below has been equipped with (2) aluminium propellers to give the user 20lbs of thrust and reaching speeds of about 12mph. To control the speed of the surfboard's propellers, the surfer than wears a water-proof wireless remote that is worn on the wrist. The remote runs on a lithium-ion battery that holds a charge from 30-40 minutes.

*The WaveJet Pod is predicted to be sold at $2,500. Recreational board packages start at around $4,395 while Rescue Board Packages around $4,150.

**Pre-order the WaveJet Pod today for a fee of $500.**

Japanese Palm Reading ATM

Japanese inventors have proposed a new idea for ATM withdrawals and deposits that would have more protection and less identity theft or even the chances of losing your ATM card! The new idea, was none other, than the card-less, palm scanner ATM. After the user submits their biometric data to the bank, the users will be able to withdraw cash as well as other functions with ATM. The new ATM will be usable by scanning the user's palm which will then read their fingerprints; these prints will match the user's account and once into the account, they must punch in a 4-digit code just like usual.

*This new ATM was created after the earthquakes of 2011. Many lost their credit cards and were therefore unable to get into their ATM accounts.

Plans For Summer 2012

Summer ... only a little more than 1 month away. From sleeping in late, to hanging out with friends everyday, summer is something that I cannot wait for. Starting in mid June, and ending early September, the stretch of Summer cannot last any longer. My friends and I have already started planning to go places like the beach, the movies, malls, amusement parks, water parks and even the Meadowlands Fair. We also have already bought a few tickets for some bands that we like.

A new bike has been produced, the eBike! The bike is mostly to be used in flat terrain environments, but can be used off terrains such as this. The eBike runs on a 250 watt brush-less wheel hub motor built into the back wheel of the bicycle powered by a BionX lithium-battery allowing the bicycle to reach speeds up to 62 mph.

The eBike is due for release by midyear of 2012 and is approximately priced at about $3,800.
A bit pricey for this new release, but it would most likely be well worth the full price.

*The eBike is due to release soon.

A scooter prototype has been revealed: The Tilting 3-wheeled e-scooter. Run by a 60V, 20-Ah lithium battery, the new scooter can travel up to 10+ miles without the need to recharge. There is also a model, the 60-Ah, which allows the scooter to go 30+ miles. This model, obviously, would be more expensive. With speeds up to 40mph and weighing 230lbs, this scooter is one of the finest currently that companies have to offer for purchase. From turn signals to lighting inside the scooter, it is all powered through LED lights, "a more efficient way," the company says.

*All features are subject to change however, since the product is a prototype, and is still in the works of production to finalize the product.

Spring Break 12'

From sleeping in late, to hanging with friends almost everyday, my spring break was very enjoyable. Starting on that Saturday through the Monday of the next week, my friends and I went to many places,
from eating out for dinner, the mall, as well as the movies. I did not go on a vacation, and neither did any of my friends. Most of my friends, however, could not hang out until the weekend, because their spring break started this week, but mine started the week before theirs.

On Monday, the final day of break, I remembered that I had two or so projects to do; they were due this week! The entire day was basically a day of doing homework / projects that I left for the last day of break. Overall, the break was enjoyable but, I wish we would have had our time off the same week that the rest of my friends that go to BCTH and the Academies do.

Ground travel is slowly become obsolete, especially with the new invention that many call "way overdue." The new invention can allow a person to travel from Beijing to New York City in just under 2 hours. "Impossible!" many claim, but it is indeed possible and plausible. At over 4,000 mph (6,500 km/h) the Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is one of the quickest way to travel, the producers claim.

It takes the E.T.T about (3) minutes to reach it's maximum speed of 4,000mph.

A knew technological advance has been made again, a robot, but this time, with facial expressions. Robots it seems, are becoming more and more life-like compared to humans. The purpose of this robot, is to make something that can interact with people, and help them. Many of the robots, called NEXI, are in production right now to be useful and helpful in working factories and other places that are in need of extra help. The NEXI's mechanically built arms can withhold 10 lbs and the plastic-like covering that surrounds the entire robot, can sense if a human comes in contact with it.
NEXI has many unique features as well including the following:
  • Self-Balancing Wheels (Like a segway)
  • Eyes (Video Cameras)
  • Ears (Collection of microphones)
  • 3-D infrared camera and laser rangefinder (Used to track objects, people, and voices)

A new idea for a laptop has been made. The producers say that it could be "rolled up like a mat." This has brought much interest into consumers. The product would now make laptops and or tablets more convenient, and easier to travel with. When rolled up, the laptop can be carried on your shoulder with the convenience of a handle, or even stuffed into a small bag. When rolled all the way out, the machine is 17" and fully compatible. With just a raise at the end of the tablet, it transforms into a fully functional laptop. It has all the common features in a computer: LAN ports, USB ports, internal camera, keyboard; etc. The price has not yet been released, but will soon be thought of.

A new laptop has been produced that is powered by solar power. This is possible by using a green  colored screen and case that absorbs light energy and converts it into energy to power the laptop. This laptop had once "been a dream," but is now reality. The producers said that this product would help spread education even to the poorest areas of the world since its cost is only $100. "With education, you can actually solve the water problem the energy problems, and even the health problems," was the quote given to this product by the producers of it. Although this product took a while to make, currently, more than 2.5 million laptops have been produced and used from Birmingham Alabama to Uganda.

What I Like About Winter

I like winter because of the possible days off of school and because you can go sledding or snowboarding. Winter is a time where snowboarding and skiing really takes off. Although I don't know how to snowboard, I like watching other people snowboard.

Check out this post on winter here
